The Albion bulletin: Striker departs as pair bid farewell

Glasgow-born Sule, 20, only joined Albion’s academy from Celtic in 2023 and spent the first portion of last season out on loan at Motherwell, only for that spell to be cut prematurely short because of an injury suffered 12 months ago.

Sule made his only Albion league appearance when coming off the bench under James Morrison, during the Baggies’ goalless draw with Millwall at the back end of last season as they were led to Championship survival by James Morrison.

He had also previously entered from the bench under Carlos Corberan during the defeat to Fleetwood Town in the League Cup in 2024.

Now, Sule - who only had another year remaining on his Hawthorns contract - has departed permanently and returned to Scotland with St Mirren, who narrowly avoided relegation from the SPL themselves at the end of last season.

Meanwhile, Daryl Dike has bid farewell to Albion after his four-and-a-half year stay at The Hawthorns came to an end.

Dike endured terrible injury misfortune but did contribute under Morrison at the end of the campaign and scored in the wins over Preston North End and Watford. Now, he has paid an emotional tribute to all facets of the club who have supported him in difficult times.

“After four and a half years at the club, my time has come to an end,” Dike posted.

“From the day I arrived in England, you were by my side, helping me live out a dream. Representing this club and wearing an Albion shirt was a privilege I never took for granted. From my first game to my last, your support never wavered.

“Unfortunately my time here has coincided with some of the most difficult years of my life. Setback after setback and defeat after defeat, there were many moments that tested me. But through it all, you kept me going. Not once did I feel alone.

“I was surrounded by incredible people every day. The fans, the staff and my teammates all played a huge part in helping me through the toughest moments. You became my family, and for that I will always be grateful. The support you showed me on my hardest days will mean more than you will ever know.

“Everyone knows how badly I wanted to succeed here. I gave everything I had, and while not every story unfolds the way we hope, I have no regrets. This journey helped me grow as a player, but more importantly as a person. It gave me incredible memories, unforgettable experiences and friendships that will last a lifetime.

“West Bromwich Albion will always hold a special place in my heart. I will always look back on my time at the club with pride, gratitude and respect for everyone connected to this club.

Damia Abella, another figure who has left the club in the off-season, has joined Serie A side Fiorentina, having been welcomed onto the staff of manager and former Italian international Fabio Grosso.

Abella joined the Baggies under Carlos Corberan, but remained in situ following the Spaniard’s departure and worked under Tony Mowbray, Ryan Mason, Eric Ramsay and, most recently, under Morrison.

Having restructured the back-room team this summer and with Tony McMahon and Gavin Strachan arriving and Matt Gill staying on, Abella was permitted to leave for pastures new and an exciting venture in Italy’s top tier awaits.

“There are opportunities that remind you why you chose this path,” Abella posted. “It is a privilege to join Fabio Grosso's technical staff at Fiorentina.

“Thank you to the Coach for the trust and to the Club for opening the doors to a club rich in history. Forza Viola.”

After departing Albion, Abella added: “After four unforgettable seasons, the time has come to say goodbye.

“Thank you for making me feel at home from day one. I leave with incredible memories, lifelong friendships, and immense gratitude. Proud of everything we shared together. Once a Baggie, always a Baggie.”
