James Morrison admitted that there was a sense of satisfaction in seeing his ten-man Albion team scrap a 1-0 win that you couldn’t directly replicate if they had turned up to Pride Park on Wednesday evening and battered Derby County.
Aune Heggebø scored the only goal of the game as Albion beat the Rams on their own patch for the first time in 23 years - and only their second time since 1919 - but that was before debutant Brayann Pereira was shown his marching orders for two quick fire yellow cards.
Still, those who remained in red on the pitch - and heaven knows the 3,103 who travelled from the Black Country in the stands - remained resolute, determined and continued to display aggression and spirit until the death.
