Albion's impressive form is starting to raise the bar of expectation to a higher level

Four points from six against West Ham and Southampton is the kind of return that will convince many Albion have what it takes to mount a promotion challenge this season

Cards on the table - when asked in the summer to predict the Championship table, I (after a fair amount of contemplation) decided Albion would finish 12th.

That would otherwise be reflected upon as a 'meh' season in Albion's longstanding relationship with the Championship but, all things considered...nine places higher than last year? A new squad, full of youthful energy if inexperienced profiles? A head coach whose footballing pedigree wasn't in question but who had never managed permanently himself?

Twelfth would have been - and, to be honest, would still be - a substantial step in the right direction. Albion received a dose of realism last season and perspective (and patience) was needed this summer.
