Aune Heggebo has become the first player to be banned by the FA under their new rule of 'deceiving a Match Official'. The Norwegian striker will miss the next two games, in the Championship against Burnley on Sunday and Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie at Newcastle.
Albion were stunned to receive the FA charge on Tuesday and appealed within 24 hours but heard this afternoon (Thursday) the Regulation Commission had upheld the suspension.
The FA say the opening goal in Albion's 2-1 win was a breach of Rule E3.1, alleging Heggebo did 'successfully deceive a Match Official by handling the ball in a direct attempt to score a goal.'
