It doesn’t take a genius to work out the two questions on the lips of most Albion fans when the EFL computer spat out the schedule for the 2026/27 season. When do we play Wolves and where are we on Boxing Day?
The derby weekends of Saturday September 19/20 and February 20/21 will be blocked out in thousands of Black Country calendars and the Christmas diaries will already be marked for the trip to Lincoln on December 26 – Albion’s first League visit to Sincil Bank (LNER Stadium) for 65 years.
It’s not quite that long since The Imps travelled to The Hawthorns though and it’s this January 1976 fixture that sent my mind circling back to when the two sides last met. It was the occasion of an FA Cup 4th round tie and far more significantly, it was also the first time I saw a young lad play at full-back. His name? Bryan Robson.
