From Hayes to The Hawthorns - Barney Stewart is following in the footsteps of giants as he starts his Albion journey

The £1.3 million signing from Falkirk got off the mark with his first Albion goal to begin the revival against Blackburn last weekend and he's determined to make the most of his opportunity wearing the club's famous No.9 shirt

Just two years ago, on October 30 2024, Barney Stewart scored for Heriot Watt University in a 1-1 draw against Lochore Welfare in an East of Scotland FA & League game. It was his last goal for his Uni team before joining up with Falkirk's first team squad.

Cut to last Saturday and the London-born striker made his first start at the Hawthorns. In one of the toughest leagues in world football. In front of 25,000. Wearing the Albion No.9 shirt. And he scored.

The very likeable 22 year-old hasn't taken the most conventional route into professional football. 'I'm not like JJ,' he said. 'He's just incredible the way he takes it all in his stride.'
