Big Ron picks his best Albion XI, names the player who should never have left and the 'coach driver' who should never have been signed!

In the late 70s, Albion were the club everyone loved to watch. Their own fans and TV viewers too would've rated them the most attractive team in the country. The manager who inherited a fine squad and turned them into the great entertainers - Ron Atkinson - has told Full Throstle what his best XI would be if he had them all to choose from again

Big Ron is still sharp as a tack when it comes to holding court while talking football. I saw him recently at an Albion Foundation event at The Hawthorns alongside Ally Robertson, Tony Brown and Brendon Batson and at the age of 87, he absolutely stole the show. Reverse those two numbers and you have the year when Atkinson was at the peak of his powers.

Albion were doing fine when Ronnie Allen suddenly quit for the Saudi Arabian national job, lying sixth. But Big Ron's box office impact was evident pretty much from the off in January 1978.

'I would say during my whole managerial career, the second half of season '77-78 and all of '78-79 was the most simple in picking a team,' Atkinson told Full Throstle.
